Dr. Satyavani believes that everything in life happens for a reason and that going back to basics, like the Zen proverb says, “Chop wood. Carry water.” is the key to a fulfilling life. The name Satyavani means “speaker of truth” and was given to her by her teachers as part of the Acharya Path of Love in the tradition of Lord Lakulish and Swami Kripalu.
Dr. Satyavani is a teacher of yoga, an Ayurvedic health practitioner, a life and spiritual coach, Reiki master and an Acharya in the Kripalu tradition. She has worked with individuals and groups both domestically and abroad for 24 years. The foundation of her work is the mission of The ZenSpot, Inc., the company she is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of – Empowering People to Discover Their Divine Self.
Dr. Satyavani is committed to inspiring, creating experiences and holding space for those that are interested in exploring what it means to live truly and authentically without boundaries. The company’s development evolved in part from Dr. Satyavani’s previous company, KAMP KELLI, whose mission was to stimulate consciousness about active health and wellness for women of all ages. The ZenSpot, is the result of over 24 years of personal experience, training, real-world application and experimentation in the field through a variety of environments and mediums, including fitness facilities, educational organizations, radio broadcast, retreat centers and online learning.
Dr. Satyavani has extensively studied the fields of yoga asana, pranayama, meditation and Ayurveda. The traditions of Swami Kripalu and Krishnamacharya are the basis by which she does her teaching and seva. Satyavani earned her 500-hour yoga certification from the Kripalu School of Yoga and her 200-hour yoga certification from YogaFit, and has also studied yoga therapy with Phoenix Rising and Yin Yoga in the tradition of Sarah Powers. Additionally, she is a certified Reiki Master in the tradition of Dr. Mikao Usui and an Ayurvedic Health Practitioner with a focus on women’s health from New World Ayurveda School and advanced studies in disease management from the Kerala Academy in Cochin, India.
As an educator, trainer, coach and healer, Dr. Satyavani utilizes her background in educational technology to direct the company’s online education platform, opening access to yoga and its associated topics to practitioners and teachers around the globe through The ZenSpot Institute, the educational training facility developed in 2011. Dr. Satyavani earned a doctorate in Educational Organization and Leadership with a concentration in Critical Hermeneutic theory from the University of San Francisco; an MA in Humanities from Teachers College, Columbia University; a MSEd in Educational Administration and Supervision from Pace University; a Principal and Superintendent’s Credential from the State of New York and a BS in History and Secondary Education from New York University.
Dr. Satyavani has held posts in K-12 schools as a researcher and accountability administrator, web mistress, assistant principal and classroom teacher of social studies on the secondary level. She also spent over a decade in academia where she served as adjunct faculty and department director in child & adolescent development as well as several deanships in adult and continuing education. She is currently doing advanced studies of ancient yogic texts with Brenda Feuerstein of Traditional Yoga Studies in Saskatchewan and is cultivating her Acharya practice as a spiritual teacher and coach with her teachers Devarshi Steven Hartman and Jovinna Chan of the Pranotthan Yoga School. She received her Shaktipat transmission from Guru Amrit Desai of the Kripalu and Lord Lakulish Lineage.
Dr. Satyavani is certified in personal fitness training, Ayurveda lifestyle and weight management, holistic stress management and lifestyle coaching through the National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association (NESTA) and the Spencer Institute. Dr. Satyavani’s yoga and Ayurveda certifications are recognized by the Yoga Alliance and The Kripalu Schools of Yoga & Ayurveda and her life coaching training is approved by the International Coach Federation (ICF). Satyavani received her reiki master training and initiation at the Holistic Studies Institute in New York and is also a specialist in pre-natal/postpartum yoga as well as yoga for seniors. She is the author, with her husband and Co-Founder, Dr. Michael Bittner, of two yoga DVDs, several online courses and a meditation CD for both beginner and advanced practitioners.
